Lonesome Books is an ongoing collection of book inscriptions found in castaway and adrift books - thrift store and used book store discoveries and purchases.
I wish each inscribed book I found would come with a time machine; I want to know who the giver and receivers of these books are - why isn't the book with the person it was meant for right now? Why did it end up being given away?
Inscription reads: "To Marilyn - A real nice story for Christmas holidays. I enjoyed it too. Love, Matthew. 2004"
There are two inscriptions in this book. One is a gift inscription and the other is a child's written name and address.
I just love the little doodle and the message "Peace Baby".
Inscription reads: "To Tammie and Kimmie. From Grandma Lillian"
Signature reads: "Cheri Duncan (Address and phone number hidden) Portland, OR 97230. Peace Baby"
The inscription in this book has a reference to telemark bowls. I had no idea what that was so I did some research and as far as I can tell, it has something to do with skis and skiing.
Inscription reads: "Karen - Thanks for letting us in on your secret telemark bowls. Barbara & Steven Matthews. June '93"
This isn't even a book; it's a hard cover 40-page greeting card. This book was published by Hallmark Cards in 1971. It has pictures very reminiscent of the 70's or a feminine hygiene advertisement, but it does have a very sweet inscription. I don't know what the 1-4-3 means though.
Inscription reads: "A beautiful book about our creator...for my special person! 1-4-3 Edna. July 4, 1972"
This is one of those books where I look at the date it was gifted (in this case November of 2007) and the date now, less than two years later and wonder how it ended up in a thrift store so quickly. Did Carla not make it through her surgery?
Inscription reads: "Carla, You are a precious sister in the Lord. My thoughts and prayer are with you as you face surgery. We know God has a place for you. Love in Christ, Georgia"
Gift page inscription reads: Presented to: Carla Presented by: Georgia Date: 11/24/07
This book has beautiful pictures and quotes from famous naturalists along with advice on achieving the most from your outdoor experience. I hope Mike, the recipient of this book was someone who at least enjoyed the outdoors, because he certainly got shortchanged on the inscription.
Inscription reads: "1996, To Mike, Happy Birthday. Roi & Nancy, Bill & Rudy"
